CAPTAIN'S LOG #30: FEBRUARY 1, 2026

QUICK UPDATES

YO HO HO!! It's TDM month, and while usually this is the month where we run the Dragon's Gale festival, we're doing something different this time!

We have updated the Calendar for important dates, but here is a quick heads up on what to expect this month:

» 02/03: EMP/ATP
» 02/13: Event/TDM
» 02/22: Reserves
» 02/26-28: Activity Check
» 03/01-03: Applications Period

The Manta Board has been posted with new and updated quests!

Included in the updated quests is the second part of the haunted manor quest, and an update on the honse bounty...

Our Rewards page has been updated with a few new things for the month!

Finally, applications open in March and invitations are open for request! Remember, new players must receive an invitation either from a current player or directly from a mod, and players are limited to one invite. Both players and those needing a direct mod invite must make a request on the Invite Request page.

EXTRA NOTES

Here is a recap of a few things that occurred last month.

Nogard is COLD. Because not many helped keep Nogard warm last month, the bone dragon Leviathan is now trembling and shivering, causing small tremors and earthquakes throughout. Not wanting to stay in the colder waters any longer, it will try to move but it is unable to transform as it is, making it impossible to move. Corsairs will have their hands full with the A Skull Full of Ice quest on the MANTA board.

SHELLPHONE UPGRADES: Some upgrades to the shellphone system will roll out this month! Nothing too groundbreaking and all just to allow players and characters to be even sillier in network shenanigans.

  1. New emojis and stickers. Emojis were always available, but now there are some more unique ones, especially sticker packs. Players are free to come up with however they look, but a featured pack will be of our favorite feesh.

  2. Photo filters. Similar to Snapchat filters, now users can apply fun filters on their photos and video calls! Mostly aquatic themed for obvious reasons, but players can also be creative and base off actual filters as well.

Go forth and have fun.

Azul's Overblot Aftermath. After spending most of the month in the ocean, Azul reappeared as the source behind the stormy weather, rift tentacles, and the mutated fish phantoms due to having Overblotted. As a result, Azul and the large Phantom that appeared alongside of his return needed to be defeated, and after a long fight the Phantom was destroyed and Azul was pacified/knocked out

Leona and Khalid were the major players in subduing Azul, and upon his defeat, the blot that has been pervading the ocean will slowly disappear and any rift tentacles will also stop appearing as well. Any powers that were stolen by Azul and the rifts will be returned automatically to their rightful owners. An aftermath log will go up for anyone who wants to thread with Azul as he will be spending a good bit of February recovering as well as an eventual network apology post.

In regards to Deep Sea Girl, Della was confronted and Azul used his Tentacle Shadow Powers to almost pull her hair out. After nearly skewering Della with those same powers, Azul fled, and Della (after a moment's hesitation) ran after him, leaving DSG to get nabbed by the paladins. Miriam may or may not have taken one of the crystal curse shards from Azul. A number of ships were damaged by light projection tridents created by the Phantom using Sherlock's stolen light magic, so the ports will be in a state of repair for a while.

» Good Boy. There are a number of developments regarding this haunted estate:

  • There are shadow creatures that lurk within the mansion.

  • It has been determined that the original owners of the mansion have been dead for quite some time, had conducted experiments in the past, and that a groundskeeper that had been maintaining it had also mysteriously disappeared with the suspicion that foul play occurred due to the signs of the blood found in the kitchen by Lightning and Faris. How their deaths occurred is still under investigation.

  • The owners once had many pets, some of their ghosts still lingering as if waiting for their owner, including a black cat who is very much alive and is, in its own way, trying to help them. A pet cemetery is located behind the mansion and members of the Hideaway are helping to maintain it until a more permanent solution is made.

  • There is a large snail with a rose on its shell that is very fast and will gobble up the shadow creatures. It is semi-territorial and will headbutt you with ramming speed if you are in its space

» The Honse. The Honse has proven to be a very strange and yet somehow popular creature!? A few have tried to tame it, and Emet-Selch and Hythlodaeus managed to capture it and bring it back to the Raiders of the Lost Arts crew island, Luna Regia. However, the Honse is not going to take to this arrangement well, displaying a violent temperament and seems to be seeking something beyond the waters.

» Zelda and Darin announced his Beacon Box project to the world! They shared their current findings from his prototype that he pitched into the rifts in December and asked for volunteers so they can make more Boxes for rift research. Keep a look out for more information to be posted.

» One innocent inn has been frozen over and destroyed because Ulpianus couldn't keep his hands to himself and Jill wasn't down with his inability to hold a decent conversation. Poor bar. It never deserved its roof being torn apart. Sorry if that was your favorite watering hole.

AINOMIAD EXPEDITION

An expedition to deliver the crystal flowers to Ainomiad's shrine had an unexpected turn when an entrance in the back of the cave suddenly appeared, leading to a cavern that was more of a frozen catacombs with bodies of different races and uniforms frozen. Further in, the group discovered a city and did some preliminary reconnaissance. The following are some highlights of what they found:

» Shadows return. Those shadows within the ice caves from before also exist deeper, able to not just pull people into the ice but possess the bodies of the dead left in what appears to be a battlefield. Fighters from both sides were left frozen in place, surrounded by blood. Some bodies hold some picture or bauble from loved ones in rushed goodbyes in place of proper funeral rites.

» Identities of the bodies. Upon closer inspection by Sherlock and Turo, it was found that some of the remains had the symbol of an Orchid on their uniforms. Given the likeness to the crystal orchid returned to the originally discovered shrine, they were protecting the city from invaders.

» Ice Snake? Within the ice, there exists a large and dangerous snake-like scale-and-fur covered creature that blends to invisibility. Large and vicious, able to move through the ice as if it were water; dangerous and fast. Is it a snake or a dragon?

» Discoveries. Floating crystal flowers shared memories of the past; with this, two familiar figures from past crystal memories were seen again, though it is hard to tell if these memories happened before the other. Familiar faces placed them as having lived within the frozen city, and helping noncombatants flee.

Within a partially destroyed museum of history and art Emet-Selch was able to identify maps of a world with large continents; these too were, unfortunately damaged, but create a much clearer picture of the world that once was.

Exploring the city further, it was noted that the technology held there matches the level of Nilatast's own; homes just as ravaged while streets and buildings also carried scattered signs of battle. Another lost city due to war?

» Music Box. Turo was able to recover a music box, amazingly still in working condition despite being buried under ice and snow for who-knows how long. It plays a lovely sound, the melody capable of stunning the shadows briefly and protecting from the bitter cold and grief within the city walls. It bears the segmented crystal figure of what could be an Ancient Leviathan known as Ainomiad.

» Belltowers. Upon climbing a bell tower close to the way the group entered, an intact bell was found at the very top of winding stairs and walls that indicated an important melody tied to them. Shadow was able to break through the ice, and discover something odd when the bell rang—colorful lights appeared and quickly split off in four other directions. Well that's weird and totally not a Zootopia 2 riff-

Dangerous as it still seems to be, a return and further investigation will be needed, however preparations will need to be made first. A follow-up group expedition will be planned for later. The group will share their results, so keep an eye out!

FUTURE NILATAST EXPEDITION

We got a good number of interest for a Nilatast expedition, and looking at the comments we decided we could do two groups. One can focus on the city and tech with the goal of discovering a way to (secret). The other will focus on learning more about our mysterious "Mother" that has shown her wrath and deep seated anger about things.

Since we're doing two groups, we're redoing the sign-up! Everyone who commented before already has priority so they just need to comment again to confirm. Those who may be interested have another chance to sign up this time. The groups are NOT excluded from each other. People who sign up for one group to prioritize can still participate in the other group's activities, you would just need to figure out how it would work.

We plan to have this expedition to happen in March as that is our downtime month.

Please sign up under the comments below: CITY/TECH / Mother

YA RELAEH

As mentioned earlier, instead of a Dragon's Gale festival event like previous years, the event/TDM log will focus on something that's "dragon adjacent." Of course, the festival is still occurring in Ocard, and those who may want to still "participate" we have a couple of quests on the MANTA Board with the popular activities featured on them that players can use at will. If you would like to read up more on Dragon's Gale, you can refer to previous years.

So, instead of Ocard the log will be featuring the Sarht's desert where some reptilefolk and a few dragons have worked to develop one of the larger oases located there. Wide as a large lake, the waters go deep within the sands and are able to sustain a large populace. The dragons are also interested in the history of the land, ancient knowledge of it still retained within their memories but knowledge they will not readily share. Instead, they task their cousins and others to figure it out and work to rejuvenate this ancient land. The dragons have a festival to put on, anyway!

Although still in development, the location now dubbed Ya Relaeh has progressed far enough to create something of a desert resort. It is near enough to the coliseum which has also been renovated but could still use a little work. Still, it's enough for them to throw the grand opening and allow visitors and scholars to stay and explore in hopes of uncovering the history of the place. Especially for the future city's namesake.

It should be noted that the only way into the region is through the teleportation gate located within the Temple Ruins (directions and guidance made public). The sandstorm from the initial discovery remains, preventing any access from the ocean—not that anyone has managed to find this desert yet. Anyone who tries to cross the sandstorm will just find themselves coming out in another spot within the area, usually by the oasis, the Coliseum, or the gate.

» Sit back and relax. As expected of a resort town, there are plenty of amenities to enjoy: unique cafes and taverns, specialty shops and bazaars, entertainment areas including dance halls, arts and crafts, and more. One of the biggest features of the oasis is the water itself. So pure and fresh, anyone is welcome to swim in the waters and even use it to drink. There is even an area for a "wave pool" and some water slides. It's themed after the traditional "pirate treasure island" with a shipwreck for anyone to climb and explore to find "treasures" for a souvenir. But there is a special area with healing springs that will relieve all aches and even can detox certain poisons after a prolonged soak. Some may even have other effects, some still not yet discovered.

» Coliseum. The Coliseum has been thoroughly cleaned out of the undead threats that had plagued it before, and most of the hostile animals and monsters have been subdued or driven away. Now it is operational and anyone can sign up for 1 vs. 1 duels or team battles of 2 vs. 2. With Dragon's Gale still in season, there is a promotion for suitors to show off their strength and have a chance to reward their love with a special prize for winning. Don't worry, those who lose may have the best prize of being comforted by their beloved (maybe). However, there are still some monsters that reside in the cliffs near the Coliseum so they may be drawn to the activity…

» Who is "Relaeh"? The name of the location is dedicated to a mysterious "hero" whose records were discovered during the town's development. There's not too much, but the dragonfolk recall a powerful dragon figure who was capable of great healing and purification. Wanting to learn more, researchers and scholars will continue their efforts in exploring the area, and those who prefer more action than a vacation are allowed to join in and help. Some potential discoveries include discovering old relics, more scales with recordings of the past, old settlements beyond Ya Relaeh, and perhaps there may be something more living hidden around…

» Special group. A group will be having their own little adventure to discover deeper lore in the area. What interesting things will they find?

Although the log will be posted on Friday, February 13 the location can be accessed at any time throughout the latter half of the month.

LAST WORDS

And that's it! If you have any questions, feel free to comment here. All quest-related questions should be posted to the Manta Board post.

Player: VG
Character: Wriothesley
Preferences: I am open to anything and everything. Wrio's a big boy, he can handle a bit more of whatever you throw at him and find things in the meantime. Or just guard the ones uncovering said tech.
Are you also interested in participating in the "Mother" portion of this expedition? If we need a filler, someone can drag Wrio into it. However, might just focus on the City and Tech side.
Suggestions: Some pretty interesting tech he can fiddle with. Whether or not it's helpful overall to the Riftfarers, he'll find a way to use it anyway.

Player: Ser
Character: G'raha
Preferences: I'm pretty open to whatever happens. Though I am trying to get G'raha more involved in plot things and discoveries!
Are you also interested in participating in the "Mother" portion of this expedition? G'raha would be more interested, but primarily in finding if there's some kind of thing linking it all together.
Suggestions: LORE. Like how did the city develop the tech/how is it still standing. any data or documents, etc

Player: Laena
Character: Cidolfus Telamon
Preferences: Any tech stuff (again holding up the "submarine" card) and cool lore things on how the city worked.
Are you also interested in participating in the "Mother" portion of this expedition? Not directly, but Cid could find some record or book or something that could be useful to supplement info for or help the group.
Suggestions: /holds up mod key
Questions: naah
fractales: (Down in the waters)

[personal profile] fractales 2026-02-01 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Player: Leo
Character: Professor Turo
Preferences: Of course finding anything further tied to "Mother", perhaps even a name or any clues to lead towards her name. Stories, songs, whatever way it could possibly slip in—

I'm good with him encountering monsters, and even 'traps' of any sort.
Are you also interested in participating in the City/Tech portion of this expedition? Turo has been elbow deep in the tech since he first stepped foot in Nilatast. Wouldn't be weird for someone to pull him in to see something considering everything discovered already.
Suggestions: Lets get some big ol' murals in here maybe. Will also take finding ties to other parts of the world, if Nilatast was involved with any other cities and etc. via trade or even just friendly 'neighbors' AkA Interactions with the world before the flooding.

Player: Anders
Character: Fenris
Preferences: I am not too picky on anything not to be done, but I’d really like Fenris to come across some monsters to fight. I’d also like to get involved in learning about who Mother is! And maybe getting a little influenced by her wrath.

Are you also interested in participating in the City/Tech portion of this expedition? Yes, I am also cool with just doing that part as well if need be. I think it would be fun to throw Fenris into a tech oriented place, being a low tech worldstate character.

Suggestions: anything involving dead angry people is really fun when it gets in your head!

Questions: not at the moment!
withermarked: art by me (Default)

[personal profile] withermarked 2026-02-02 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
Player: Ilya
Character: Faulkner
Preferences: He'd like to try to find any way to attempt to communicate with 'Mother.' Because trying to be a horrifying water entity's favourite little guy went so SO well for him last time.

I think it would be fun for him to keep pursuing the historical culture angle; he's been trying to build trust with a caretaker ghost from the 'church' he found a while back, etc.

I'm honestly good with whatever in terms of things going well or badly for him; depending on what he finds the goal might also swerve into deranged 'how do we kill a god' territory...

Monsters and minor injuries/some degree of mental trauma are fine. He's choosing to go poke the horrors after all.
Are you also interested in participating in the City/Tech portion of this expedition? A bit! He's definitely interested in the history of the city, but he's not a tech guy. Though something he could figure out or notice due to being good at patterns and sigil based magic systems could be cool? I'm good either way.
Suggestions: I just crave Lore and Clues. Also maybe more ways for the ring that lets you talk to fish to be useful because I think that's funny.
