CAPTAIN'S LOG #06: FEBRUARY 1, 2024

QUICK UPDATES

YO HO HO!!

We have updated the Calendar for important dates, but here is a quick heads up on what to expect this month:

» 02/03: EMP/ATP
» 02/10: Event/TDM
» 02/23: Reserves
» 02/27-29: Activity Check
» 03/01-03: Applications Period

The Manta Board has been posted with new and updated quests! A few of last month's quests have also carried over, so if you didn't have a chance to do them last month, you have another chance.

Some notable quest updates are: The Edge of Sleep, High Above Me, She Sews Lovely/The Price of Freedom. We also have a special quest: Mystery of the Fire Horse.

Our Rewards page has been updated with a few new things for the month! And speaking of rewards, we have an important clarification we'd like to address so be sure to read it here.

Finally, applications open in March and invitations are open for request! Remember, new players must receive an invitation either from a current player or directly from a mod, and players are limited to one invite. Both players and those needing a direct mod invite must make a request on the Invite Request page.

AC RESULTS + NOTE ABOUT SUBMISSIONS

Here are the results for last month's AC round:

Trafalgar Law | [personal profile] doctorheartstealer
Halsin | [personal profile] goodberries
Ky Kiske | [personal profile] greedsever
Yuffie Kisaragi | [personal profile] materiahunting
Alucard Emery | [personal profile] strung
Shallan Davar | [personal profile] truthspeaker
Tony Tony Chopper | [personal profile] zoolingualisms

Our player cap is currently at 50/65, which means we have 15 slots open.

We love seeing that everyone is active and having fun in this game! However, we would like to ask that under the "Extra Notes" section of the activity check, players keep the notes to information that is relevant to the mods and/or the game as a whole. (e.g. findings and discoveries that you want us to know about, results from quests, etc.) It makes it easier and faster for me, your AC mod, to sift through and find the information that we need and put it in for review. Bullet points are love, bullet points are life.

REWARD POINTS

So we've discovered there was a bit of misunderstanding and miscommunication regarding Quest points and their values. Completely our fault as this was born both from wording on the Game Info that we have since fixed as well as what was said in Discord, so we apologize!

To keep things simple, all quest instances are worth the full 4 points. There has been a misunderstanding that only the first instance of a quest is worth the full 4 points and that any other instance would be worth 2. Meaning, if a character did the same quest four times, only the first time was counted as 4 points and the the other three times were 2. This is not correct, all four times should be counted as 4 points.

We are aware that some players have submitted their rewards using the misunderstood information and we are happy to give back the extra two points per quest thread that was submitted and not counted as full. To keep things as simple as possible, we request affected players to comment under their character's toplevel with links to the affected threads and the total number of points regained. So if you had six quests that were valued at 2 points each, you will regain 12 points. When submitting for rewards, you can just link to this comment and indicate which threads you are using and the amount if you are not using the full amount.

Again, we sincerely apologize for this mix-up. If there have been any other points of confusion, please feel free to bring them up!

CREATIVE FREEDOM

This is just a reminder to all players that you can do a lot of things without our permission! That's within reason, of course. For anything that may affect the game or populations at large, you must definitely reach out to us first.

But for things that are personal to the character, such as obtaining personal items, traveling somewhere, or learning standard abilities as simple examples, you are free to make it so without our permission. We don't want players to feel stifled in building their character's lives in the game setting, so as long as it's not something that could affect others negatively or goes against set limitations, you have blanket permission to do so.

DONATIONS

The total number of points donated last month is: 100!!!

WHOO!!

Since we met the goal, the special event unlock is set and we won't be asking for any donations this month. As we also have a full month to prep it, we will take any suggestions or requests you'd like to see involved with the event!

QUEST UPDATES

It was briefly mentioned above, but just pointing out a few more details about the updated quests:

» Fire Horse + Altar: The researchers would like to thank any and all information brought to them regarding the altar that was found near the bottom of the volcano. There were some interesting patterns that they noted:
  • The fire horse had been subdued on a number of occasions using several methods, while others were able to seemingly "defeat" it by sending it back into the lava. However, during each instance, the horse angrily attacked the altar in the room, as if trying to move it or break it.
  • There was mention of damage being done to the altar by others, while the fire horse could not.
  • Many treasures were discovered in the rooms surrounding the altar. Jewels, coins, even some daggers that were likely used as part of a ritual. A stone tablet and many dusty old tomes were taken as well, and while they all contain indecipherable ancient text, some have blood on the pages, while others contain drawings of runes and rituals.
  • The red substance on the floor around the altar was most definitely blood.
Recent sightings have shown that the fire horse is changing and there is increased volcanic activity as it continues its rampage. Look to the Special MANTA Board quest for more information.

» Turtle Savior. Thanks to the efforts of those fending off the ice giants and helping the turtles, many were saved and the ice giants driven off and banned from the island. The ice giants aren't too pleased, but the turtles promise great rewards to come.

» Hanged Man's Gambit: Results are in, and while there were some interesting suggestions, the final decision is the convicted Paladin officer will be stripped of rank with public humiliation, pay restitution to all affected victims, and must serve supervised community service for at minimum ten years. Investigation into accomplices is still underway as he is being surprisingly tight-lipped.

» Dreams Submerged in Drowning Shadows: A lot of research and attempts went into trying to find a cure, including using the eyes of the Lore Accurate Jellyfish and other means. The quest continues to create an amulet and to hunt down and defeat the demons once and for all.

» High Above Me, She Sews Lovely/The Price of Freedom: A lot of people were angry at the person who tried to kidnap the seamstress, including the Corsairs, and you know you done effed up if the Corsairs are out to get you. Now the man is bunkered down and won't go down without a fight. Players can either make a large group effort or we just have RP timey wimey shenanigans. Though who gets to claim a kill

» Wolves Among Us: The training sessions with the pups have been successful and the owner has taken back the pups to continue to raise them. NO ADOPTIONS can be made at this time, but for those who have grown attached to the wolves, there will be a near future opportunity to do so. The pups will remember their time fondly…and will remember who helped them.

» Poke and Substitute Dolls: Turo has finished improving on the dolls and are available under the Charms & Misc Items section of the Rewards page.

» Beta Testers + Upcoming Inventions: Cid has gotten a lot of data from the volunteers and will be finalizing improvements over February and will release the final products in March (will also be on the Rewards page). Anyone who participated will receive a final version from Cid sometime during February so those players can already assume to have them. Expect Cid to ask for requests and suggestions.

» New Discoveries: The Phantom Moon set off to explore an island and made some interesting discoveries, including golden yellow feathers of an identified avian creature that may enjoy the flowers and berries grown there.

» Rumors: Dojima overheard some interesting rumors around the pubs and docks, and perhaps others may have heard of them as well:
  • There's a spot to the east where on a full moon, a huge whirlpool forms, one so big that it actually opens up the seafloor to the air. If you can somehow navigate your way down, you can explore the various sea wrecks to try and find treasure down there.
  • The pollen from a particular carnivorous plant is in high demand after a culling session, thanks to their potency in helping some folks... achieve sexual potency.
  • A haunted experimental diving suit can be seen roaming in deep waters, carrying a lamp light that never seems to go out. Supposedly haunted by the user who drowned when it didn't turn out to be water proof, it's usually a sign of ill fortune on clear nights, but during fogs, it can light your way forward.

DRAGON'S GALE

This month's Test Sail and event will be featuring dragons, so it's Nogard's turn to migrate to a large island called Ocard. Eltrut will be dozing off near cooler waters still and Elah is drifting between, keeping an eye between both. The Naughtilust will also have meandered its way, and all four leviathans are within a day's sail of each other. Here's a brief preview of what to expect:

» Ocard: A large island that has an odd, curved shape to, almost resembling to that of a lizard curled in on itself. Beyond the shores are vast forests and high cliffs filled with numerous caves and old ruined castles. Why there are so many dotting along the ridges is anyone's guess, but it looks both haunting and picturesque. Especially once the dragons arrive.

» Dragon Migration: Around this time of year dragons will migrate to this island to meet, socialize, mate, and brood, leaving only once the hatchlings can fly months later. The dragons come in all forms, from flying, to land, to sea types. There are also dragonkin that live and travel to the island, serving as both guardians and interpreters for those visiting.

» Festival: At this time in particular, a special festival is held for those who visit. Due to the Corsairs close affiliation, such events certainly have that "cutthroat, roguish" flair to it, which fits very well with the dragons' style. Large feasts piled high with all sorts of meats, games that are more like challenges, and the one that truly bind Corsairs and dragons together: treasure. Given that this is a time where dragons are also around to try and find a mate, there are some activities to help foster close intimacy, be it romantic or platonic.

» Kidnapping and Castle raids: As part of "tradition," dragons will "kidnap" certain individuals and bring them up to one of the ruined castles nestled high up those clifftops. Usually no one is harmed, but depending on the person and dragon, it's not uncommon for real fights to break out. But no one has been killed or eaten in the past five years. Presumably. In any case, this is an understood game of sorts where the friends and/or lover of the kidnapped will "raid" the castle, going through the obstacles and face the dragon itself to free them. There are also designated castles set aside for those who dare to try and steal the treasure. Any treasure successfully taken is theirs to keep, so it's a very popular, but dangerous game that many Corsairs and adventurers partake in.

» Other things: This is not an exhaustive list, but some other activities will include dragon riding, special monster hunts in the forest, deep diving with the sea dragons, rooting out neerdowells, and more.

And if anyone has any suggestions or anything they'd like to see or do, feel free to let us know! We have a little over a week so we have time to adjust things where needed.

LAST WORDS

And that's it! If you have any questions, feel free to comment here. All quest-related questions should be posted to the Manta Board post.
