CAPTAIN'S LOG #23: JULY 1, 2025

QUICK UPDATES

YO HO HO!! Well we're about to burst at the seams with the number of interested applicants we have! BECAUSE LAENA IS SO GENEROUS (read: has no control) and because we only have a small number on the waitlist, we're going ahead and letting everyone who reserved send in their app even if it will go beyond the player cap limit. September app round may be tight or even be closed from new players because of this, but we'll see how it goes!

As for what's happening in the game, Elah has been gone for long enough and the leviathan's location may have been sniffed out! As we plan for August to have a large event, this month is serving as a bit like "prep," so instead of a large event we'll have special quests and a catch-all log of sorts to help. More details are in their respective sections.

We have updated the Calendar for important dates, but here is a quick heads up on what to expect this month:

» 07/01: Applications open
» 07/03: Applications close
» 07/04~05: Apps processed; CR Meme
» 07/07: Point donation deadline
» 07/11ish: Open Log
» 07/29-31: Activity Check

The Manta Board has been posted with new and updated quests! There are no unique Crew quests because of the current events and special quests that are on the board.

Our Rewards page has been updated with a few new things for the month!

AC RESULTS & IMPORTANT NOTE

Here are the results for last month's AC round:

EVERYONE PASSED

Our player cap is currently at 59/65, which means we have 6 slots open

Please note that with our current invites and reserves, we will be reaching game cap. As a result, we will be enforcing our squatting rules more diligently and reaching out to players more if we feel they are breaking those rules. Please review them here.

EXTRA NOTES

Here is a recap of a few things that occurred last month.

After a hard fought battle, the island remnant of Elah was saved thanks to everyone's efforts to defend and repel the sharks while also trying to keep the island together. A lot of slime was collected to help fill in the most vulnerable cracks so while the island did sustain significant damage and lost more land from the outskirts, a much larger portion was still spared, especially the main port city of Baleen.

But the biggest and most surprising "hero" of the battle was Liansa, the giant volcanic snail leviathan that emerged from the depths in a giant flow of lava and assisted Nogard in driving Krahs and the shark raiders away. Hailed as the mysterious "snail goddess," as depicted in the accompanying narrative, Liansa will give Elah's island some extra ground to help stabilize it as it remains anchored on the island it's temporarily attached to. This should help keep it from breaking off for a while, but not forever.

With the waters now finally settling, it's time for everyone to regroup and figure out their next steps in finding Elah.

» Several criminals that were still on the run, including a group of riftfarers, have been caught, but a couple are still out there. Their bounties are posted on the MANTA Board.

» Although many were rescued from the snail cultists' attempts to sacrifice people into the volcano, because of Liansa's appearance they were definitely not convinced that it was the wrong method to summon her. Oops. However, they and the rest of the snailfolk have become staunch allies and will assist in everyone's needs.

» Drowned in Silence. The lost crews were rescued, but the island is still cloaked in mystery. Due to the dangers, it is currently considered restricted, but of course that won't stop anyone crazy enough to try and go back to it…

» Tara-Tam Deepcroft. Although not destroyed, the ghostly maiden manages to escape from the monastery and shows no sign of return. However, although this brings some relief, there are still concerns as she is still out there…lurking… Searching for the perfect head for her beloved husband.

FINDING ELAH

Several groups have made attempts to locate Elah, and through their efforts there is a consistent heading: somewhere where the northern seas meet the south along the equator, where the ocean depths may be at their lowest, and the waves are constantly churning due to the storms that plague the area. It's a part of the ocean that not many dare to traverse through, and of those who do only a small handful manage to make it through.

There is some interesting history about this part of the ocean:

» Betsy and Fantomex learned that although not in this specific location, Elah would occasionally bring its people to other points along the equator, sometimes just a day's away from this dangerous area, where the land can receive plenty of sun and fish is plentiful. Many of the local Paladins consider these "warm zones" something of a vacation spot for the leviathan.

» It seems that the sharkfolk and Krahs were trying to track to Elah, following its movements as it traveled. However, Espio, Kitsunami, and Surge were able to listen in and hear about an area that not even Krahs was willing to go through, a "forbidden area" too dangerous for the giant shark leviathan. The maps taken show that the area is the same as what Betsy and Fantomex are able to narrow down. Emet-Selch and Hythlodaeus also found an island within the region filled with murderous axolotls, so maybe there really is something dangerous about this area…

» Shadow and Sonic were able to find an island that had a reflection pool that revealed an island that could have been an "ocean paradise:"

A bustling city that floats just a little over the ocean, tall spires gleaming in the sun that look as if they were made of pearls. Instead of birds, fish with wings can be seen flying freely before diving back into the water where mermaids and all sorts of marinefolk are gathered around, speaking with those on boats who are fishing. It's an overall happy memory to suggest the island was very prosperous and a peaceful place for all marine life. Before it fades, they will be able to hear SOMETHING calling in the distance–a low rumble like that of several large whales echoing as one voice. It is serene, peaceful, content, and they will hear another voice calling back–perhaps it is Elah?

Could it be related?

With a heading now set, there's no time to waste to try and get closer to Elah to reach out to it. However, not only do they need to somehow convince Elah, they also have to be able to get there.

POINT DONATION

Whether Elah will decide to return or not will be determined by DONATION POINTS!! We haven't done one of these in a while, so this will be a fun way to determine how successful it is or if Elah will remain out of the picture for a while longer. How it works is simple:

» To succeed, we will need a total of 200 points.
» Players can only submit once per character. This means if a player has multiple characters, they can use all of their characters for submission. However, they can only submit each character once.
» A character can submit maximum of 4 points (2 points are allowed). This means only threads worth 2 or 4 points will be eligible (most general quests, certain event threads, and AC bonus threads).
» Threads already used for the Rewards Shop or AC are considered spent and are ineligible for the donation.

Good news is the last time we did a point donation event, we had 6 extra points, so that is carrying over to this donation. Thus we only need 194 points. Any extra points will be stocked and carried over to the next point donation event.

Deadline is July 7th.

To submit points, comment to the POINT DONATION subthread. If you have any questions, drop them in the QUESTIONS subthread.

DEEP DIVE PREP

Regardless of whether successful or not, everyone will need to get to Elah's location, and that will be no easy task. Not only are there rough seas, the leviathan won't be chilling near the surface and will likely be deep underwater—deeper than any transformation potion will be able to help with. This means the month of July will be focused on working on creating ways to get there. The MANTA Board have some Special Quests that have some objectives that can be worked on, but here's a quick run down:

» Preparing a station base on one of the nearby islands
» Creating gear to handle deep water pressure
» Creating some kind of underwater vehicle or something to help move around
» Gathering tributes and petitions to try and give to Elah
» Try and make contact and gain connection with deep ocean folk or creatures

However, with only a month and with the technology limited as it is, even our most advanced engineers will find it difficult to create something that would reach such depths and handle such rough conditions. No, a full blown submarine won't be possible—

Which is fortunate that a giant snail appeared!

Yes, the "snail goddess" that helped drive away Krahs at the end of the attack is capable of going down to such depths. However, it will be a very, very long trip as while it's much faster underwater than on land and its size will help cover greater distances, it will still be a slow journey. Not to mention the surface of the snail is volcanic, and it's not used to having travelers on its back that were not other volcanic snails like itself. Preparations will be needed for those who wish to embark on this journey, such as creating a safe base on the snail that will prevent everyone from being scorched. Fortunately, the leviathan can at least create a safe "dome shell" for its unusual travelers, so they won't have to worry about air. But other facilities and such will need to be made.

Because these are issued as "quests" anyone will be able to do these on their own, however we will create a catchall log to help contain threads and make it easier for people to find and interact with each other. As this is a month's long endeavor, the log will go up around the second weekend, after applications are processed. The result of the point donation will also be incorporated in the log, hence the possible delay.

WHAT'S FOR AUGUST

Given the unusual nature of these events, we're going ahead and giving everyone a heads up on what August will be like. Since it's our pre-anniversary month (gasp!!) with the Test Drive, it's going to be a bit more special.

Without spoiling much, August will continue the journey to the deep ocean. Presumably objectives will have been fulfilled and everyone who wants to will be ready to go. And if those objectives were not fulfilled, well, travel will just be a little more difficult.

We actually plan for most of the month to be focused on the deep ocean due to the travel time of the snail leviathan. There will be deep ocean set quests featured on the MANTA Board, and should our engineers and inventors be successful, opportunities to explore a bit outside of the destination.

This will all culminate towards the featured event that will have a lot of fun lore stuff 👀

We recognize that not everyone may want to do the deep ocean content, or may want to do something else outside of it. There will be a way for characters to travel between (with some restrictions), and there will be other activities and non-deep ocean quests available.

After this, assuming nothing unexpected happens and things are successful, the Elah arc will come to a close and we can put all this plotty stuff to the side to be a little more relaxed. We do have our second anniversary coming up in September (wow that's wild), so we'll see what we end up doing for it ho ho.

LAST WORDS

And that's it! If you have any questions, feel free to comment to the designated thread. All quest-related questions should be posted to the Manta Board post.
