MANTA BOARD: JANUARY 2025

The MANTA Board is posted every month, but the quests are on a "2 month cycle." This means quests can last for two months with possible updates or new additions in the second month before it completely refreshes for the next cycle.

Quests are separated into five categories and all have flat point values: General (4pts), Corsair (4pts), Paladin (4pts), Bounties (6pts), and Specials (12pts). Note: characters helping opposing armada quests will only be rewarded 2pts for participation unless specified otherwise. Special quests won't always be available so it may appear blank at most times. These can range from group quests such as for special ship upgrades or island related quests, or they could be special event quests. All quest points can be used for the Rewards Shop.

If you have any questions, comment to this entry.

» GENERAL (4pts)
Infinity Fabrics
Reward: A beautiful magical girl dress. You can also spend some dubloons to roll for more magical outfits.

Fairy Fire Fabrics, a small local fashion and clothing business running out of Eltrut which known for its magical fabrics and fashions, is testing out a new collection of fanciful magic dresses. These dresses are made out of the finest products that the business can find and are imbued with special fairy magic. The seamstress, who owns the business is sure that these dresses will make anyone who wears them... fly.

But not only fly. These magical dresses, when combined with the right fashion items (shoes, stockings, hair accessories, gloves, etc) will create powerful new effects. Some of these effects given to the wearer include floating, shrinking, evil purification, animal handling, bug catching, floral gliding, violinist skills ... and more! A full list can be found here.

The seamstress is encouraging others to come try out this beautiful new collection and to give the special effects a whirl. And don’t worry, she’s very convinced that gender doesn’t matter here. Only that the wearer can feel the magic of the dresses and other outfits worn. Create the best outfit and try to fly!

Frost-Kissed Blossoms
Reward: As many Frost Blossoms as you can find.

With winter here, there have been requests for a special flower to be harvested that only blooms during these winter months. This beautiful flower is said to be a love charm that when given to the one you fancy will encourage feelings of love and affection back to you.

As said before, this flower only blooms the brightest during the winter months. Crews that are interested in harvesting the flowers (for selling or for personal use) might have to venture out to explore snow-covered islands in order to find the freshest and most beautiful ones.

Rumours are that the most effective flowers and ones that will sell for the most are the ones that bloom in heavy snowy blizzards. Is it worth it to brave the cold to warm a heart with a fancy flower gift?

Barenaked Birdies
Reward: Dubloon of Luck. This golden coin features the image of a grinning pirate captain. It's not actually lucky.

Those ambitious alchemists are up to something (again). There have been reports of strangely shaped birds hiding in trees and bushes. But there’s something... very different about them.

The birds have legs. They have human-shaped legs. And like to waddle and run around more than they like to fly. No one is sure if they’re dangerous or not but it might be a good idea to scoop and cage all of these birds until someone knows what to do with them.

Go out and catch as many of these bird abominations as possible before this gets out of hand.

Sharky Swaddling
Reward: A big, cozy manta ray shaped onesie.

A nursery has recently been put in charge of caring for and nursing a large group of baby Sharkin pups. The little shark babies are round and squishy but have a tendency to bite since they are teething and have incredibly sharp teeth. And they can knick themselves or each other if the caregivers aren’t careful enough.

In order to give the caregivers a hand, they are looking for help in swaddling the sweet shark babies in soft cashmere blankets in the shape of manta rays. Use the soft fabric, swaddle the babies up and rock them to sleep.

Puppy Unloved
Reward: A potion of Animal Speaking. Only lasts for one hour.

A couple of months back, a small litter of three-headed dogs (cerberus puppies) were adopted out to the public. All is well and good with the puppies… Except for one.

Unfortunately, one of the dear little things didn’t get adopted. The three-headed dachshund puppy that wasn’t adopted out has now gone missing. The dog breeder is extremely worried about the poor thing and what sort of trouble it might get into when it’s all on its own...

There have been a few reports of dog attacks in the immediate area, as well. Some think it might be a wild dog that is killing local farm animals and small house pets. Almost all the reports write that there is one set of dog tracks in the dirt and snow but the damage done to the farm animals seems like it’s more than just one animal doing it...?

There are suspicions that these attacks are directly related to this puppy having gone missing. Help find the puppy and show it some kindness and love before it’s too late. We don’t want a poor unloved puppy to get any more lonely and angry that it already is...

The Great Singalong
Reward: 100 dubloons.

Wanting to help start the year with energy and passion, a group called LOUD (Let's Oust Uncool Days) is hosting what they're calling "The Great Singalong" and are looking for people to join in and post flyers about the event. Singing experience is not required. Singing in tune is not required. It seems the main point of the event is to be as loud as can be (with a hint of song to "excuse" the loudness). It's a nighttime party!

The Great Self-Reflection
Reward: 100 dubloons.

A group calling themselves SHHH (Silence Hours Here and Hereafter) are hosting "The Great Self-reflection" and are looking for people to help keep the noise down. They encourage to start the year reflecting upon the past in order to improve what's to come. The best way to do that is silence and thinking. Additionally, please take down any flyers about "The Great Singalong." SHHH had that date decided first.

» PALADINS (4pts)
The House That Watches
Reward: Captain’s Compass. A beautifully ornate golden compass etched with sea serpents and runes. When holding this compass, you always know the direction of True North and the location of any object you’ve seen before.

There is an old noble’s mansion on the edge of town on Elah that has been more active recently. The nobles that live inside the mansion have started to make appearances in town, attending parties, walking the markets and strolling through the Elah conservatory grounds. They’ve started to attend socialite gatherings and have even started to host elaborate dinners on their estate.

There is just something strange about the noble family. Every time that they’re seen in public, they seem to be accompanied by looming, dark shadows. Shadows that move and mirror every single one of their moves, from simple hand gestures to nods of the head. At first, it seems like these walking shadow figures are copying their bodies but with a closer, careful look it’s actually… the bodies that are copying the shadows. Giving the shadows expressions and words through the use of their own human bodies. As if they’re a perfect working pair.

A trail of soot-like darkness trails off these shadows… And not much more is known about what’s going on. Investigate this family of shadows and find out if what they're doing is dangerous, or if this is simply how they live their lives in pairs as one. One living, one shadow.

And be careful not to be absorbed into a shadow and become a paired with it yourself. As the shadow will use your body to express its voice and expressions...

Further Hexing Crystals
Reward: Bottled Tempest. A glass bottle containing a roiling storm cloud. When uncorked, the storm escapes.

Last month, strange blue crystals were found inside a moored ship. When held, the crystals seemed to absorb any and all kinds of magical energy. In order to keep the various relics and magical items safe inside the paladin archives, the crystals were destroyed.

Those blue shards are now under paladin guard. They’ve managed to set up a small research camp away from the archives to do some further testing. The researchers are looking for volunteers to help them determine just what these crystals are made of and what they can do.

The shards themselves seem harmless. Although, when set together, they do have some sort of blue electric charge that threatens to zap the shards back together into a perfect sphere again. If that happens, the crystal's power will yet again start to absorb magical energy.

Although, with enough tinkering, perhaps the crystals can be reverse engineered to expel energy instead of absorbing it? If that can be achieved, these crystals might be the next key to enhancing further magitech capabilities. Could this be… a new power source?

But beware… playing with these strange blue shards seems to put the echo of an injured, screaming beast in your head. That’s odd.

Waterlogged Writings
Reward: Golden Goose Feather Quill. A quill made out of a golden feather.

A group of paladins has recently returned to Elah with an old waterlogged chest that was discovered floating along in the ocean. Inside the chest are countless rare and priceless books that are badly water damaged.

In order to save the books and add them to the paladin archives, attempt drying and restoring the books as much as possible. It is a fragile and strenuous task, as one wrong move might tear a soggy page right out.

If the books can be saved, there will be countless editions to the paladin library such as, "The Sea Rover's Practice", "The Life of Captain Bartholomew Roberts" and "Pirate Women: The Princesses, Prostitutes, and Privateers Who Ruled the Seven Seas."

» CORSAIRS (4pts)
The Last Shadow Afloat
Reward: Rum Runner's Tankard. This enchanted pewter tankard fills itself with strong, tasty rum once per day at dawn.

An old pirate ship and its crew has been roaming Nogard waters, lately. They have been rampaging and pillaging smaller, less equipped ships. They have also been docking on Nogard and have been frequenting the taverns and shops in town. They are a group of rather rowdy pirates.

There is just something strange about the pirates.

Investigate this group of pirates and their shadows and find out if what they're doing is dangerous, or if this is simply how they live their lives in pairs as one. One living, one shadow.

And be careful not to be absorbed into a shadow and become a paired with it yourself. As the shadow will use your body to express its voice and expressions...

A Steamy Winter Heist
Reward: A box of steamy night time tea and a rare packet of blooderscotch candy.

Do you know that old saying that most babies are conceived during the winter months? With the long nights coming and the colder nights getting colder, all that is left to do is to keep your bed warm at night. Preferably with another body. With this trend, a special tea has become popular again amongst the people. A special bedtime tea that warms you from head to toe and keeps you feeling steamy and sweet all night long. That’s right, it’s an aphrodisiac tea.

Steal a shipment of tea from travelling merchant ships. Since it’s such a popular tea at the moment, many corsairs are hoping to bank on the idea and sell the tea on the black market at an exorbitant price. The rarer the tea gets the higher the price goes.

Or steal some tea for yourself. Who wouldn’t want to try it?

Potion Permit
Reward: One frothy bottle of Lady Pirate Grog’s Ultra Healing Potion.

A healer on Nogard is looking to make a special healing potion made out of some very strange and choice ingredients. She will give corsairs a list to go by but it’s mostly up to your own interpretation on how to get these special ingredients.

If at least three items are brought back to her, she will be able to brew the next best Lady Pirate Grog’s Ultra Healing Potion. A highly potent potion that can cure even the worst hangovers and most stab wounds.

Here’s what to look for:

» SPECIALS (12pts)
Auction Houses
Reward: 3000 dubloons

There have been recent reports of large amounts of inventory potentially related to the recent whale hunting and crystal statues appearing in various underground auction houses. They are hard to find and both Armadas are feeling heat from the public and higher officials: Corsairs for being suspected as the ones behind all this illegal trade and the Paladins for not being able to close this case out yet.

Both sides will either be working against or with each other depending on what they are assigned to do or how they meet, and suspicions will be high from both sides. Be careful!

A designated log with objectives will be posted to make it easier for participants. It will go up on Wednesday, January 8th.

Would the healer in "Potion Permit" be willing to share or sell her potion recipe? Zelda would like to be able to make these potions to use on her hospital ship.

So I've seen at least the first season of Shadows House anime-- should I consider the shadows to also be living things with souls or did you have your own twist on what's going on here?

If Axel were to poke around the House that Watches, would he find any clues that establish the rum runners might be connected with or know this noble family?

He thinks it could be useful in pinpointing where the ship might strike next (but even if there is no connection, that it is useful intel to sell to Stormbringer regardless, while both armadas investigate whether they'll become a threat or not)

The fact that both these incidents sound vaguely reminiscent of people who usually spawn heartless has nooooothing to do with it

(I'd happily share this discovery with whoever I thread this find with)

Awesome! Thanks Mods, exactly the kind of information I hoped for. I'll note it in AC.
