mini player plot!
HELLO ALL! My name is Jade and I play Rem, and I'm here to offer a mini player-plot! The event will be July 5-6th and take place over the course of two nights. It involves the option for your character to be haunted by someone dead from their canon! Below is a short breakdown/preview:
Night One
The spirits first make their appearance! A few notes:Night One Negative Effects of the Spirits:
- The apparitions must be someone deceased from their player's canon.
- Whether or not these spirits are canonically/originally malicious, good, or neutral does not matter.
- They physically appear as they had in canon, whether that's at the time of their death or how the character best remembers them.
- The spirits are aware they are deceased, and they can go no further than ten meters from your character's location. All spirits seem to want to stay with your character.
- How they behave around your character will reflect how they acted in canon with your character. If you choose a canon character that was friendly with yours, these hauntings are not willfully antagonistic, and they might even express they miss your character dearly. If this spirit was antagonistic, your character might have a much more awful time. However, there is a common theme: the spirit may at one point ask something along the lines of "do you remember me?" or "Would you rather forget me?"
- The spirit isn't truly this dead character, but more like a vision of them. Those who are able to sense souls will be able to notice that the apparition has something like a blank, surrogate soul.
- The longer one spends with the spirit, the more weary your character becomes. One might feel as if their energy is being sapped. It's probably because they're staying up late, right??? By morning, your character might be bedridden, but the spirit will vanish when the first red light of dawn comes. This effect is very subtle. If your character becomes aware that their energy is being siphoned and notices that the spirit is the culprit, the spirit will be ignorant.
- How to banish the spirit: if your character won't wait until dawn when the spirits vanish, there are a few ways to get rid of them sooner!
- Any typical exorcist-like magic or powers can eliminate them (and to make things simpler, this can include holy, light-based, or spiritual magic, charms, talismans, etc.). For those who are not magically inclined, your character can will the spirit away with strenuous effort, but they must insist that the spirit will not be remembered. Afterwards, the spirit will vanish. In either scenario, whether the spirit appears again that same night is up to the player.
- Whether your character banishes the spirit or waits until dawn, they will see how their soul (and perhaps that of other souls in the vicinity at dawn) all head in a certain direction. Spooky!
Night Two
The spirits make their second appearance! Also, optional enemies.
- The spirit can be either the same spirit from before or an entirely new one. If the spirit is the same from the previous night, they are aware they remember the previous night.
- Regardless of the spirit's canon personality, the the spirit is here because they want to live, and they'll do anything for it. This is sort of a 'masks off' moment for any spirit who is not antagonistic, and they will actively try to siphon your character's soul/life essence/energy.
- They can be banished by the same means as the previous night.
- Optional fight: Once the spirit has acquired enough power from your character's energy, they, unfortunately, do not 'return back to life'. Instead, they transform into a grotesque, undead version of themselves. Their appearance can be up to the player. While these creatures hit hard, their bodies are, fortunately, rather fragile. Whatever resurrection magic that may have been used here is not quite refined.
- NPCs' spirits-turned-monsters can be available for any fight scenes as needed.
- Like the previous night, the spirits/monsters souls, upon banishment/defeat, will all head in a certain direction. If your character is able to see or catch souls, they are free to do so.
Rem's Involvement
So Rem did a dumb thing and kindof is the cause of this! Knowing her involvement isn't necessary to participate in this mini plot, but I did want to add some details just in case anyone wanted to tackle the one responsible.
- What actually happened: she needed to find something to store all the souls she's harvested, and Emet-Selch offered her a piece of auracite. The auracite reflected her two deepest desires (to refine her resurrection spell to bring back the dead, and also to remember them). However, the auracite also corrupted these wishes in the process.
- Night One. In general, Rem will be around for this event, if only to observe how others interact with someone who is dead and, more importantly, observe how they remember their dead. If your character banishes their haunting spirit while she's around, your characters will notice their surrogate soul returning to her hands. Rem's appears exhausted during this night. As for the auracite's effect on her, her personality will tend to be curt, withdrawn, and extremely wary.
- Night two, she'll be acting a little more erratically, and she'll be visibly weakened and unhealthy. Again, the auracite will be affecting her personality in a negative way, which she will be experiencing.
- Conversations/Bargaining: Because the auracite has made her especially desperate and weak, this is one of the few times Rem will bargain with the souls she's harvested if your character has something of value to offer in return, such as healing, power or solutions to overcoming death..
- Confrontations/fights: So if you want to confront her about this during either night, she is available! Rem will typically not attack someone if they don't attack first, unless she fears for herself, and even then, she's more likely to back down or flee. The auracite will be making her behave more fearfully and irrationally (as the auracite corruption consumes her), however, so if push comes to shove, she will sacrifice a soul to summon her eidolon, Odin, to fight on her behalf. Odin can only appear for 110 seconds to fight. Optionally, if you want to write out drama~drama and auracite-effected-Rem is icly feeling very cornered, she will reach for your character's soul.
- Resolution: by the time dawn comes, the event will be over. All unvanquished spirits will vanish, returning to Rem's care, and the undead will turn to ash.
Final Notes
- As mentioned before, you don't need to have previous CR with her or need to interact with her to participate in this miniplot. Just have fun! Or have it be an excuse to have your character see dead people, or let other characters see someone dead from their canon C:
