CAPTAIN'S LOG #08: APRIL 1, 2024

QUICK UPDATES

YO HO HO!! March was crazy, huh? But looks like we have some exciting stuff happening on the horizon so be sure to take a look 👀

We have updated the Calendar for important dates, but here is a quick heads up on what to expect this month:

» 04/03: EMP/ATP
» 04/15: Event/TDM
» 04/25: Reserves (LIMITED)
» 04/27: Player Plot signups
» 04/28-30: Activity Check
» 04/01-03: Applications Period

The Manta Board has been posted with new and updated quests! A few of last month's quests have also carried over, so if you didn't have a chance to do them last month, you have another chance. The Game's A Foot will have a designated thread for players to comment for any investigation questions.

Our Rewards page has been updated with a few new things for the month! As well as a bit of a change up which is explained a bit further down.

Finally, as of the time of this post, we have 10 open slots, so applications will open in May, however invitations are limited to players only. Direct mod requests will be closed due to the limited number of open slots we'll have for this round. Remember, players are limited to one invite and must have their invitation approved via the Invite Request page. That said, those who do not know anyone from the game can still participate in our upcoming Enable Me Tinders meme as well as our Test Drive and hope a player or mod will sponsor an invite.

CREW QUESTS, BOUNTIES, AND REWARDS

Just a few updates and clarifications about quests that can be made by crews as well as the bounties that we mentioned last month.

» CREWS
To help bolster activity and give players ideas, Crews are allowed to create their own quests for each other without needing to submit to the MANTA Board. They can also make them "locked" to the crew OR allow them to be "accessible" by inviting others outside of the crew to participate. Players will have complete freedom as to what these quests can be, from the mundane "we need to do X" to "oh no we have a scourge of rats on the ship!" The only caveat is it must be directly related to the crew. Exploration type quests are also allowed, but it must have some relation to the crew.

All crew based quests will be worth 4 points. If a quest is open to guests, non-crew members will also get those points!

We won't require players to have these kinds of quests approved by us, however if there is something you have in mind or concerned it may affect other parts of the game, feel free to drop us a note!

» CREW ISLANDS
In relation to the above, we're going to talk a little more about island acquisition as we've had to kind of adjust from original ideas. Before, we planned to create quests for a crew to acquire an island. Now we've made it a little simpler by having the crew write up their desired island and what kind of challenges, creatures, environment, and other notable features would be included. This way, we can be sure that the players will have something they will like. Additionally, crews will have the option of either writing the log themselves or we can draft a log with prompts featuring whatever is written in the planning doc.

Because this is a one time thing and considered a "special" expedition, all threads within an island acquisition log will be worth 12 points. We think this is fair because it is a one time event for that group and it does involve finding a whole new island environment. The only caveat to this is that the full point reward will go to the crew members. If crews allow non-members to join in the expedition, the guest members will only receive 4 points. This is mostly because this island is for the designated crew, and it would be unfair to allow outside crews to "double dip" in point rewards.

» BOUNTIES
Ho ho ho, we had this mentioned in the Game Info before, but we're only now going to try and make it more active to spice up things a bit for our character base. At any time, players can nominate their character for a bounty via AC submission using either Extra or MANTA Board Posting fields. We would prefer if players write up their own bounties as you will be able to express exactly what you'd like and what kind of result will happen with your character. Formatting it similarly to our current bounty postings will also help! Players can nominate and write up bounties on other characters not their own, but only with player permission.

This is also an opportunity to make it like a mini player plot, but you can also make the bounty as simple as "capture A alive and bring to X authorities" or "B's fashion is horrendous, get them in better clothes and take pictures as proof." They can be as silly or dark as you want, just make sure to be clear on what kind of outcome you'd like to have or if there will be a designated resolution. We do suggest making it as "simple and open" as possible, but also keep in mind your own thread load. If you need to limit the number of people who interact with your character directly, please specify!

All bounty threads will be worth 6 points.

» REWARDS
Just a quick note that to reflect all the changes above, the Rewards page has gotten a makeover! Residence & Business upgrades are now grouped together, as well as the new Crew Ship & Island Upgrades tab for all crew-specific rewards.

That should be it! We have revised the relevant pages to include this information, but if you have any further questions feel free to ask!

EXTRA NOTES

Here is a summary of the thread submissions and other updates we've received for the past month!

» The player plot signups mentioned in the calendar will be for Benedikta Harman's Very Bad Day. Details will be included in the post once it goes up!

» While helping/training with the blacksmiths, Dojima overheard them talking about legends of a metal that was both incredibly lightweight, malleable, yet extremely durable. If made into chainmail it could easily handle any sort of ballistics sent at it, without weighing the user down compared to modern armor.

» My Lovely Wife. These are the following contributions:
• Gale and Kaveh brought the alchemist flowers and went to speak to him about his grief and to try and discourage this reckless use of magic.
• Emet-Selch collected a random assortment of items that actually suit a long-lost friend. One would more rightly call them travel souvenirs than something that would constitute the perfect wife. (Or perhaps that is exactly the sort of thing he wants in a life partner--)
• Alastor added the following ingredients: monster claws, monster fangs, bullet casings, a cookbook, and a music score. It's more that he doesn't believe that any of this is going to work than actively trying to sabotage. But he also wants chaos so there's that.

» Supply Side Logic. Gale, March 7th, Heizou, and Sherlock Holmes went undercover to investigate the black markets and managed to bring back samples.

For the Norhpip excursion, the following relics were found:
» Eyestalk (found by Cid and Benedikta)
» Jeweled crab (found by Alhaitham and Kaveh)
» Two modest crab claw pieces (found by Alhaitham and Heizou)
» Crab leg (found by Alhaitham and Lyney; claimed by only Alhaitham)
» Broken relic (found by Lyney and Heizou; good job breaking it you two)
» Unidentified relic (found by Kaveh and Freminet)
» Unidentified relic (found by Kaveh and Lyney)
» Totally real and not at all fake statue (found by Tifa and Eustace)

In addition, tension between the two Armadas are rising after the number of fights that broke out while exploring Norhpip. While some managed to keep the peace and recognize they were under the influence of the leviathan's atmosphere, wounds were made and trust broken. Perhaps the upcoming event will help repair relationships between the two.

Norhpip and the crabs were both pleased by the efforts made in recovering the statue relics, but were also a bit…disturbed by some individuals who mentioned eating or hunting the crabs. They'll need a little more time to mull over whether to hand over the "clue to the rifts" due to this little wrinkle… Thus there are additional tasks located in the Specials section of this month's MANTA Board in order to prove their trustworthiness.

FIRST TIDES

As the seasons change to spring, another celebration of sorts is held. However, rather than a "party," it's more of a grand event held on Eltrut based on the following legend that can be heard by bards around this time of year:

Gather 'round, dear sailors, and heed this tale spun from the ancient whispers of yore, when the world danced to a different rhythm, and wonders beyond imagining roamed the vast expanse. In the age when only the winds shaped realms with a breath, it was said that mighty turtles emerged, with shells vast as mountains and eyes that held the wisdom of epochs, who roamed the barren lands. With a stride that shook the very earth, they journeyed to the heart of the infant world, bearing the weight of creation upon their ancient backs. With each monumental step, they carved deep valleys and soaring peaks, until at last, weary but resolute, they plunged into the depths of the darkness, their colossal forms creating a tsunami of waters in a final act of divine benevolence and wonder. Thus, from the steadfast embrace of these celestial leviathans, the first oceans were born, teeming with life and mystery to find, covering the land from the beginning to the end, a testament to the marvels wrought by leviathans and titans alike.

Thus, we honour these leviathans of old, for they granted us the gift of exploration and the rhythm of tides that ebb and flow, echoing the heartbeat of creation itself. And in reverence, we carry forth their legacy, guiding hatchlings to the embrace of the life-giving waters, nurturing the cycle that sustains our beautiful world.

Legend or not, now is the time for turtles to hatch from their nests found all around Eltrut and on certain islands. It's also a time for large spring harvests and new expeditions as the colder weather and rougher seas start to warm and calm.

» Save the turtle hatchlings! The little turtle hatchlings are appearing everywhere around Eltrut and need help getting to the ocean. Not only must they navigate through various environments, but also must avoid natural predators and poachers. And the reason why they are popping out even up high in the forests on Eltrut's shell? Because the eggs were moved!

» The Captain's Boil. A giant pot of seafood that everyone needs to help pitch in and get ingredients for. From harvesting around forests and various farm fields, to of course fishing, which includes trapping crabs, gathering oysters, and other kinds of seafood. Of course…while there are normal fish out there, there are special ones that will be a true prize.

» Special activities. Some other activities to be included will be special basket weaving, flower exchanges, turtle themed games, and more.

However, whatever celebrations or activities will be disrupted as Ice Giants from the far north appear on a mighty shark leviathan, Krahs. Their target? Eltrut, for they are on the hunt for turtles and Eltrut is the biggest known one. Perhaps those who helped rescue the turtles on Avaleci back in January will remember fighting them off.

The other leviathans will be coming in to assist to try and keep the Krahs away from Eltrut, but it won't be an easy battle.
