MANTA BOARD: JULY 2025

The MANTA Board is posted every month, but the quests are on a "2 month cycle." This means quests can last for two months with possible updates or new additions in the second month before it completely refreshes for the next cycle.

Quests are separated into five categories and all have flat point values: General (4pts), Corsair (4pts), Paladin (4pts), Bounties (6pts), and Specials (12pts). Crew quests are listed under "Specials" and are worth the same amount of points (12pts). Although these quests are intended for established crews, non-members are allowed to assist if the crew invites them. However, non-members would only receive 6pts. Similarly, characters helping opposing armada quests will only be rewarded 2pts for participation unless specified otherwise. Special quests won't always be available so it may appear blank at times. These can range from group quests such as for special ship upgrades or island related quests, or they could be special event quests. All quest points can be used for the Rewards Shop.

The Special Quests will have a catchall log posted for ease, however players are still free to use them in their own logs and threads outside of it.

If you wish to submit a quest, comment in the appropriate field during Activity Check with the quest written and we'll add it to the next month! Crews are also still allowed to make their own quests without our approval, but if uncertain players can comment here about them.

If you have any questions regarding any current quest, comment to this entry.

» GENERAL (4pts)
A Phantom Theif
Reward: Third Eye Trinoculars. This peculiar item functions as a normal spyglass, except that by looking through them you can also see into and observe the contents someone's heart. Good or bad.

Hurried reports have been flooding in about a strange new situation occurring across several islands scattered throughout the ocean. People are being found completely unresponsive and dazed. No matter how much they are jostled or urged to speak or react, the victims remain blank and detached. They show no emotional responses whatsoever, just empty shells, devoid of personality or feeling. Living, breathing bodies... but nothing more.

The only leads that anyone has are some sightings of a masked and cloaked figure escaping the scene at the last second. This figure has yet to be caught. The speculation is that this cloaked thief has something to do with stealing what is inside these victims (their hearts?), leaving them empty husks. But how…?

Investigate the issue and find a way to stop this heart thief. And find a way to return these victims to the people they once were. All while not falling victim, yourself.

What Shall We Do With a Drunken Sailor?
Reward: A keg of normal pirate's grog.

Someone must have spiked the local brewery stores with something diabolical. Because everywhere anyone turns, and any drink anyone drinks, the beer makes the drinker perpetually drunk. Now almost every vessel is plagued with drunk sailors that can’t seem to sober up (maybe including you!).

Either find a way to get these scallywags to sober up through natural or forceful means, or get these drunk sailors off their ships before they can cause any permanent damage to the ships, their goods or themselves. And find out where this long-lasting-booze is coming from!

Cat Kneads
Reward: Bread!! Delicious carbs!!

Remember the little cat bastard that had been stealing spices and ingredients from other bakeries last month? Even after being caught several times, he did get away in the end! It seems the little one is now in the business of opening up his own bakery. This little bread benefactor is an independent feline who needs no boss, after all!

To jump start his business, he’s offering bread samples to potential new customers. The bread offers some special magical effects! Come to his little bakery stand on Eltrut’s waterfront boardwalk to give it a try. And then buy a loaf or two if you feel so inclined.

Here are a few samples below.
Crumb Cloak Croissant– You turn invisible, but only for thirty seconds.

Toast Teleportation Rye – Instantly teleports you to the nearest bakery (his bakery).

Yeast Boost Buns– Doubles your jumping height for ten minutes.

Loaf Lift Pumpernickle– You become light as air and float slowly upward for sixty seconds.

Baguette Baton – A fresh baguette so crunchy it can also be used as a weapon.

Garlic Aura Roll – Gives you an aura that repels vampires, mosquitoes, and annoying people.

Crust Shield Ciabatta – Grants a magical crust around your body, giving temporary protection like armour.

Sourdough Song – Makes you sing everything you say for the next hour.

Jam Burst Jelly Roll – Your next sneeze explodes in a harmless but sticky burst of raspberry jam.

Touched by Mothlight
Reward: A glowing koi-shaped lantern.

Some of the forests on various islands and leviathans have been experiencing a strange phenomenon known as Spirit Mothing. This is when moths gather in droves when attracted to creatures or humans with damaged spirits or people who have been close to death. The moths will swarm around the targeted creature like moths to a flame, trying to attach themselves and to drain any negative energy from them. It will tickle, but there will be no pain. Although, letting them feed for too long will leave the target feeling nauseated or exhausted.

No one understands the how or the why. These moths don’t seem particularly dangerous but the ritual can prove to be startling and worrying. Investigate the phenomenon, take some research notes, and see how you feel after you let them feed.

The Wy's Have It
Reward: 500 dubloons.

Several reports have been made of a flight of wyverns on a remote island that have been causing havoc in rural farming communities since they've come down from their usual roosts in the mountains on the island. Usually the residents and the wyvern population live in relative harmony, but something seems to be forcing the creatures down from their mountains to prey on the farmer's livestock and work animals.

And urgent call has been placed to eliminate or otherwise deal with the offending beasts before the farmers' livelihoods are ruined. An additional 100 dubloons reward will go to anyone who discovers the cause of the unseasonal wyvern migration.

» PALADINS (4pts)
The Scales We Shed
Reward: A pure white dragon's tooth.

A strange request has appears on the paladin’s manta board. The writing is scrawled and messy, with several spelling mistakes and backwards letters. It’s seemingly written by a child. After some cleaning up, the message reads something like this,

“Hello Paladins. Please help. I don’t want to be a dragon anymore. Everyone is mean to me and they don’t like my sharp teeth or my fire breath. I don’t want to burn anyone. I don’t want to eat anyone. I want to be like you. Strong. Happy. I want to be human. Can you make me human? Thank you.”

It appears that there is a wayward dragon whelp from Ocard that has found its way to the paladin manta board. Now it is requesting to become… human. Is there a way to grant this little creature’s request? Be it through magic, alchemy or something else. Find a way to help the little dragon baby, or … find the real reason why it dislikes being a dragon so much. Poor thing.

Cluck and Dagger
Reward: 500 dubloons and a basket of delicious roast chicken.

On Eltrut, there is a wealthy businessman named Colonel Cluckbeard who has made his fortune through selling a famous eleven-herb and spice roast chicken meal. He has been in business for years, becoming one of the biggest local names for his delicious chicken meals.

This year, he is hosting a grand dinner party at his lavish home, inviting all sorts of special guests from the nobility and upper class to come and celebrate another successful chicken-selling season. By all means, it’s a party to show off his luxurious lifestyle and successful business ventures. And above all else, his delicious chicken recipe.

Unfortunately, the chicken recipe is very secret and very rare, leaving it a keen topic of discussion amongst thieves. Pirates and no-do-goods have been trying to steal his secret recipe for years. And because it is so highly sought after, the man has hired the paladins to guard his kitchens so that the secret recipe is not stolen during the party.

There are some notes that theives have been posing as party-goers. Protect the secret recipe and kick out any rabble that might be disrupting the dinner party. And maybe sneak in a few tasty bites of chicken along the way.

Naked and Afraid
Reward: Tranquilizing Musket. This musket uses blowgun needles for ammunition, instead of traditional firearm bullets.

One of the higher ups believes that the paladins are in need of some extra survival training this month.

Paladins are broken up into pairs or groups and assigned small deserted islands that they must survive alone with very little supplies for a whole week. The islands will have very little to offer aside from thick brush and trees, some sparse coconut trees and lots of rocks.

Find a way to survive using your survival skills, nature skills, creativity and ingenuity. And maybe a little tattoo magic for those who want it just a little easier.

» CORSAIRS (4pts)
The Graven Trinkets
Reward: If successfully stolen, rare necklaces that offer various dangerous dark magic.

Rumours along the grapevine says that Captain Calico Jack’s ship has sunk out at sea. And now that the ship hasn’t returned, all the rare treasure that had been on that ship are now ripe for the taking. Get out there and search for the ship’s wreckage and pillage the treasure before it’s slim pickings.

It is said that the treasure that was on the ship consisted of several rare amulets and necklaces that Captain Calico Jack had planned to sell on the black market. Some of them are rumoured to be very dangerous, including necklaces that when worn grant the wearer special dark magic like blood bending and mind control. Seeing as these are particularly dangerous, they should be stolen with care.

What is done with the treasure after that ... is up to the thieving corsairs in question, now isn’t it.

Codename: Chicken Run
Reward: If stolen, a ripped list of eleven secret spices. The last spice is ripped off and missing.

Since the chicken recipe is very secret and very rare, it leaves it a keen topic of discussion amongst thieves and corsairs. Pirates have been trying to steal his secret recipe for years so that they can get a cut of the pie. But no one has managed to steal it, yet. Therefore, work together to steal the secret recipe from somewhere inside the mansion kitchens during the dinner party when everyone is distracted.

There have been notes that the mansion is equipped with several traps to help keep corsairs and thieves out. Beware of the falling gilded cages, trap doors and spike pits... So be careful of how you find a way in and out.

Pocket Picked by a Penny
Reward: The Problem Solver. A hand pistol that when a target is hit, it is blown back with incredible force.

Local corsairs on Nogard have come up with a new nifty little trick. They’ve created a little trick coin called a Rupoor Coin. When placed in the pocket of someone unsuspecting, the coin will start to eat away at the person’s pocket change and valuables on their person, only to be regurgitated back up to the owner of the Rupoor Coin later.

Take a Rupoor Coin and try and sneak it into someone’s pocket to see how well it will do at snacking on that person’s dubloons and valuables. This will be a great way to brush up on your sleight of hand skills, too.

» SPECIALS (12pts)
Preparing a Base
Reward: Various monetary payments

An island in the area has been chosen as a main base for those who plan to venture down into the deep, dark depths of the ocean. Because it is completely uninhabited, structures need to be built and systems installed to help prepare for the dive. This base will also be where preparations for the snail leviathan, Liansa, will take place as similar structures will be needed atop it. However, more work will be needed for the Liansa base as the snail's body is more volcanic in nature. Some more specified tasks are:
  • Planning and building structures for long term use, such as housing, communication, eating, etc.
  • Stocking up on basic supplies and equipment for travel that will last for weeks
  • Creating gear and equipment for individual deep diving and exploration (any form of technology, magitech, and magic allowed)
  • Creating machinery to handle the deeper dives, including some kind of submersible
  • Determine a suitable location on Liansa and creating a more habitable environment
Engineers of all kinds will be highly sought after.

Mod note: Given the limitations of time and available technology, it will NOT be possible for anyone to create a full-fledged, highly functional submarine at this time. But other devices or machines that could aid in people swimming could work!
Making Deep Ocean Allies
Reward: 200 dubloons

At Baleen's Reach, it was possible to encounter some of the deep ocean folk that inhabited the deeper waters nearby, and a few have made positive connections with them. Returning there to meet them again, or trying to establish contact with those in this particular area will be another objective that organizers want to try and make. If they are able to make allies and have guides to help them, then the journey may run smoother as there is very little known about the deep—especially any dangerous creatures that lurk within. Thus there is a request for anyone who is able and daring enough to reach out to make those connections and gain information. Perhaps there are even friendly creatures that could also help aid in some way.
Tributes for Elah
Reward: The feeling of honor in helping such a grand endeavor

Although a memorial has been constructed in honor of the whales and lives lost and affected by the hunts and crystallization, organizers are asking for "extra" tributes specifically for Elah to help try and convince the leviathan to return. Officials have already started making their own petitions to show their own efforts in reforming the corruption that had run rampant, and the citizens are hopting to lend their own aid. Letters, paintings, music, and food are some common offerings, but anyone can create or perform whatever they think would work best.

One particular tribute that is being collected is a lot of giant shrimp. Capable of growing over ten feet long, these shrimp are just the right snack for a leviathan that is capable of swallowing thousands of them at once. They are quite plentiful in the warm waters that everyone will be situated near, so those willing to try and capture a few won't have to travel too far out of their way. Just be careful trying ot catch these large shrimp as while they are not aggressive, their sheer size and tough shells can make them more difficult to catch and subdue, and ships will have to be careful that they are not towed away and dragged under.
